Job Description:

The Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY) is seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support and lead SQL Server operations, especially related to the migration of existing applications to the Azure Cloud . The DBA will oversee the SQL Server environment on virtual machines (VMs), ensure best practices in performance and configuration, and work with cross-agency teams managing databases across various platforms including Oracle and Azure.

Specialty Areas:

• Database Administration & Leadership – Leading SQL Server management, troubleshooting, performance tuning, replication, and availability configurations.
  

• Cloud & Virtualization Expertise – Managing SQL Server databases in Azure Cloud and virtualized infrastructure across Unix, Linux, and AIX systems.
  

• Application Migration Support – Working closely with vendors and development teams to manage the migration of SQL-based applications to cloud environments.
  

• DevOps Integration – Supporting tools like Jenkins, Ansible, Bitbucket, Maven, Kony Mobile, and Nginx.
  

• Technical Documentation & Compliance – Creating detailed documentation, ensuring compliance, and participating in risk mitigation.
  

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and support SQL Server databases on VMs and in Azure.
  

• Lead migration of SQL-based apps into Azure Cloud.
  

• Provide Tier III technical support and database incident resolution.
  

• Configure and manage clustering, log shipping, replication, and security settings.
  

• Collaborate with infrastructure, storage, and network teams for database optimization.
  

• Participate in performance and capacity planning to ensure scalability.
  

• Support deployment processes for development and production environments.
  

• Evaluate and implement risk management controls and compliance protocols.
  

• Develop technical documents, support project planning, and assist stakeholders.
  

• Provide mentorship to junior database staff and participate in status meetings.

Mandatory Requirements:

• Minimum 9 years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA.
  

• Proven ability to lead cloud-based SQL database management and migration.
  

• Strong troubleshooting and system performance tuning skills.
  

• Must be dependable and able to take ownership of database operations and planning.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• SQL Server DBA certification.
  

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science or related field.
  

• Experience with multi-datacenter distributed environments.
  

• Familiarity with tools such as Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Azure DevOps.
