We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Substation/Transmission/Renewables Estimator to join our team in The Woodlands, TX. The ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing cost estimates for substation and transmission projects, working closely with engineers, project managers, and procurement teams to ensure accurate and timely bid submissions. The role requires strong knowledge of electrical power systems, including substations, transmission lines, also ideally solar PV and BESS systems.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Cost Estimating: Prepare detailed cost estimates for substation and transmission projects, including materials, labor, and equipment costs.
- Project Review: Collaborate with project managers and engineers to understand project scope, schedule, and specifications. Assess project designs and review technical documents to prepare accurate estimates.
- Bid Preparation: Develop and submit cost proposals and bids for new projects, ensuring compliance with project requirements and specifications.
- Vendor Coordination: Research and communicate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain pricing information for materials, equipment, and services.
- Risk Analysis: Identify potential risks and challenges in project execution, and develop mitigation strategies to ensure cost control and project success.
- Cost Tracking & Reporting: Track and report on project costs and budgets during execution, providing regular updates to management.
- Value Engineering: Provide recommendations for cost-saving measures while maintaining the integrity of project specifications and quality.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, cost estimation best practices, and changes in codes and standards relevant to substations and transmission systems.
Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, construction management, or equivalent experience/education.
Experience - Proven experience (3+ years) as a power estimator in the construction industry, preferably within substations/distribution or renewables.
- Proficiency in estimating and takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD, etc) and MS Office Suite.
- Familiarity in estimating foundations is a plus (concrete, pile, helicals, deep piers, etc.)
- Strong understanding of construction methods, crews, materials, and equipment.
Skills and Knowledge - Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently.
WORKING CONDITIONS This position is based in our office in The Woodlands, TX office. Some travel may be required to project sites, home office, or other events.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS The Substation/Transmission/Renewables Estimator reports to the Power Estimating Manager.
